Overwater villas

Can you imagine anything more romantic than waking up to the sound of waves and birds, smelling the fresh sea and stepping outside to see colourful fish swimming in crystal-clear water all around your bungalow? That's the kind of experience you get when holidaying in an overwater villa, as the name suggests a room built right above sea water. Typically, several overwater villas are clustered together and connected to the mainland via long plank walkways to allow for easy access to the main resort building, beaches and amenities. Overwater vacations are a growing travel niche among honeymooners and luxury tourists. The first overwater bungalows were created in the 1960s by three Californian men in their resort on the Island of Moorea in French Polynesia. The pacific south-sea islands are still home to some of the most wonderful overwater resorts in the world, especially in Fiji and Bora Bora.

The St. Regis Resort in Bora Bora is a perfect destination for a truly luxurious overwater holiday. It is located in a magnificent private lagoon and features three excellent restaurants, private butler services, deluxe bungalows with high-speed internet and 2 flat-screen televisions, a spa, a fitness center as well as yachting and diving excursions. This is one of many south sea resorts where you can spend the time of your life! The Maldives , home to 475 miles of exotic coral formations and tropical fish, are another important overwater destination.

Resorts like the Baros, located on its own private island in the North Malé Atoll, offer a hideaway surrounded by marvellous white beaches and lush tropical vegetation. The intimate, luxury villas have been created right on top of a coral reef, using only natural materials. Other destinations with overwater resorts include Mauritius , Belize , Bermuda and Vanuatu . Overwater villas are perfect for a honeymoon or simply for a holiday in paradise!
