Teatro Argentino

While the Teatro Colon is closed for renovations until the target year of 2010, the Teatro Argentino is still being used as a top choice for performance venues. Maria Barrientos, Marian Anderson and Fedora Barbieri and many more known artists once sang in this theater. Other musicians include Pietro Mascagni, Richard Strauss and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Yehudi Menuhin and Pablo Casals. Ballet was also performed here.

The original building was razed by fire. The de facto government refused to renovate the damaged building. Refusing to die due to the fire, Teatro Argentino companies continued with its usual business and performances. It was only on October 12, 1999 that the Teatro Argentino was inaugurated. The music performed during that time were excerpts from Verdi, Gounod, Donizetti and Giodano.

Although it is Argentine, it has a horseshoe form that is typical of European structures. For locals, the architecture is not appealing to the eye but the building's acoustics are divine to the ear. It has a 2,000 seat capacity. It has three levels of theater boxes and it has movable platforms. It has the Alberto Ginastera Hall that has a huge three tone bronze chandelier and the Astor Piazolla Hall. For art collections, you can go to Emilio Pettoruti Exhibition Hall. These are not the only rooms the Teatro Argentino has. It has rooms for test, dressing rooms and production. Its artistic bodies include an orchestra, choir, ballet, and choir of children. Aside from all of these, it has academic programs for aspiring musicians.

It is located in the capital of Buenos Aires Province. The Teatro Colon is part of the Monumental Axis of public buildings of La Plata. You can find it by the 9 and 10 streets and 51 and 53 avenues.
