Armenia Travel

A small and beautifully formed country. It was the first to adopt Christianity as its state religion. Outdoor pursuits are the country's main attractions, with glorious mountainous scenery. Armenia is a landlocked country state in eastern Europe between Turkey, Iran, Georgia and Azerbaijan.

Armenia travel

The easiest way to visit Armenia is by air. Armenian Airlines is the national carrier and the main flight hub is Zvartnots International Airport, which is a short ride from Yerevan. Road and rail connects Armenia with its neighbours. The train network is very limited and many people travel by mini-vans (marshrutkas.) Cycling is also a popular mode of transport in many areas.

Armenia sightseeing

Yerevan is the capital city and lies in the shadow of the snow-capped peaks of Mount Ararat. It's a place bursting with cultural activity. The religious capital of the country is Echmiadzin, and the head of the Armenian church resides here. The spectacular monasteries at Sanahin and Haghpat are popular with visitors. The county boasts many natural attractions such as the hot springs of Arzni and Jermuk. There are also hundreds of rivers, waterfalls and also stunning cliffs and caves to explore in the south east of the country. Mountaineers and hikers head for the slopes of Mount Aragats. During the winter there's good skiing on the slopes at Tsakhadzhor (valley of flowers).

Armenia climate

The climate tends to change with elevation, but generally it's a dry country with many days of brilliant sunshine. Winter is generally not too cold.
