The Great Wall of China covers more than 4000 miles and was constructed over 2000 years and parts of it may be viewed on day trips from Beijing, the capital of China . A recent find, the Terracotta Warriors, have now become immensely popular. These red clay figurines were buried by the Qin dynasty in 210 BC and include thousands of life-size statues in full uniform and armor.

The Forbidden City is a museum situated in the center of Beijing , in close proximity to the infamous Tiananmen Square in which is located the famous portrait of Mao Zedong. Also on the visitor's list are the Yangtze River and the Three Gorges dam, the world's largest hydroelectric power station. The traditional seat of the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan Buddhist Spiritual leader, can be viewed at the Potala palace in Lhasa . Surrounding a red palace, the building is located high on a plateau at 3700 meters. Beijing , known for its food and culture, would be a perfect getaway for everyone.

The food and culture varies widely. In the Cantonese cuisine, grilled and roasted meats, fried rice, salted black beans, bird's nest soup, sweet and sour pork, sharkfin soup, dim sum etc are popular. In the Peking/Mandarin/Shantung way of cooking, barbecuing, frying, spring rolls, lamb, fish and pancakes are common. In the Schezuan/Hunan style of cooking, Indian influences such as hot and spicy dishes, roast duck and pork, five-spice powder flavored dishes and hot and sour soups are common. There are a few other notable styles of cuisine including Honan and Fukien.

China climate

The climate in China varies considerably depending on the terrain, latitude and time of the year. Beijing , which is located in the northern zone, has an average day time temperature of 30 degrees Celsius in summer and frigid temperatures in winter. As we go further south, the winters get milder and the summers get hotter. Guangzhou , in the southern zone experiences very hot summers and milder winter seasons. Springtime dust storms are common in China .

Most popular airline hubs in the world such as London , Paris , Frankfurt, Chicago , Los Angeles , Tokyo , Singapore , etc have direct flights to Beijing , Shanghai or Guangzhou . Domestic airlines in China have also boosted their fleet and improved their service in preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Trains are another way of traveling to see the country.
