Florence Travel Guide


The capital of Tuscany, Florence is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Italy. Historically, Florence is considered a birthplace of the Renaissance and it is filled with Renaissance palaces, churches and it is home to some of the most famous art works in the world.

Apart from its cultural and historical sights, Florence also offers its visitors world class cuisine such as locally prepared steaks and tripe and the world renowned Tuscan wine. There are also several shopping attractions in Florence. The historic centre of Florence is a World UNESCO heritage site and the city of Florence was nominated as the world’s most desirable tourist destinations in 2007.

There are several state museums in Florence including the Uffiizi Gallery and Bargello Sculpture museum. Visitors to the museums in Florence can see the famous David by Michelangelo as well as art works by Giotto, Fra Angelico, Filippo Lippi, Botticelli, Raphael, Titian and Caravaggio. After a visit to the museum, Florence offers several cafes, bars and restaurants that line its streets and plazas. Enjoy local Tuscan cuisine, appetizers and even the famous red wines from the region. There are several wine and countryside tours available just outside of Florence.



Florence is also home to several archaeological sites. The Archaeological Museum displays artefacts covering all of the major periods of the ancient city. There are several churches, monasteries and old homes that can be visited.
