The most obvious of the 'sins' in Las Vegas is gambling, though gambling has been a legal activity here in Nevada since 1931. With the boom in gambling and construction, Las Vegas attracted people from all over the United States and the world, and became renowned as a city where many illegal activities take place. Organized Crime helped to make Las Vegas into what it is today and is still said to be prevalent in the city to this day.

In the early 1900's, construction took place in what was to become Downtown Las Vegas. The first hotel, now named the Golden Gate , was built in 1906 and was expanded when gambling was legalized in 1931 to include a gaming floor. Other hotels followed, such as the Las Vegas Club, and later the Golden Nugget in 1946. Gambling in Las Vegas really took off when construction of the 'mega-resorts' began on the Strip, starting with the Mirage in 1989.

Las Vegas was rated as the highest grossing gambling centre in the world for many years up until 2006 when Macau in China took the lead.

As well as gambling, Sin City is a popular destination for live shows and there are a number of these which are rated as 'adult' shows. Most of the adult shows feature topless female dancers though there are also several all male revues such as the Chippendales. Also one of the famous Cirque du Soleil shows, Zumanity, is a more adult affair.

Las Vegas also claims to be the wedding capital of the world and has been a popular wedding destination for decades. Often in the past it was more renowned for shotgun weddings taking place in the numerous small 'wedding chapels' which lined the streets, though this image has faded somewhat now and Vegas has become a more high class wedding destination!

Las Vegas is served by McCarran International Airport which has both domestic and international flights landing here, and the airport is within easy reach of all the major hotels.
