Rome Travel Guide

The city of the seven hills was the heart of the ancient Roman Empire and is the capital of Italy today. A visitor to Rome will encounter all that is old and modern in one place. Many people consider the splendid city of Rome to be the largest open air museum in the world. Rome is also home to fine dining, excellent cuisine, fashion and several shopping attractions. A cultural centre in Europe, Rome is one of the most visited cities in the world.   

There are several UNESCO world heritage sites scattered throughout the city including the city centre. Rome is one of the most influential and most visited cities in the world. There are far too numerous museums, archaeological and historic sights to list.

Some of the most famous include Roman remains such as the Roman Forum, the Coliseum, the Pantheon, Trajan’s column and the Arch of Constantine. Notable Renaissance and Medieval sites include the Piazza del Campadiglio by Michelangelo and the Palazzo del Quirinale, the residence of the President of the Republic. Rome is also famous for its fountains including Fontana Aquala Paolo and the Trevin Fountain. 

Rome is also home to the Vatican City, a territory that is independent from Italy. The Vatican City is home to the Pope, the head of the Roman Catholic Church. The Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica are found in the Vatican City along with other religious sites.
