Tennis tournaments

Australian Open
Where: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
When: January
This hard court tournament opens the season for the Grand Slams. The main courts of Melbourne Park fortunately feature retractable roofs that can be shut if it rains or is too hot. As the event is held during the Australian summer it can be notoriously hot.

French Open
Where: Roland Garros, Paris, France
When: Over two weeks between mid May and early June
The premier clay court tournament of the world takes the world tennis calendar to Europe. Because the surface is slower it is generally considered more physically demanding than the other Grand Slams.

Queen’s Club Championships

Where: West Kensington, London, England
When: June, the week after the French Open
This is a popular warm up tournament for Wimbledon and also held in London. It is the largest grass tournament outside of Wimbledon and has a reputation for producing Wimbledon champions.

The Championships, Wimbledon

Where: Wimbledon, London
When: Over two weeks from late June to early July
The oldest tennis tournament in the world and the most prestigious. It’s the only one played on grass and where you can get strawberries and cream!

US Open
