Top five last minute cruises this Christmas

Cruise ships have always been a great way to escape the harsh winter. Spending Christmas with your family at home is always enjoyable, but you can make it extra special and completely unforgettable with a special holiday somewhere more exotic. For this reason last minute cruises are a perfect option.

This article includes some of the best last-minute journeys that you could find yourself embarking on this Christmas.

The Atlantic Islands Cruise

This trip won't be taking you too far away from the UK, but it'll take you far enough to forget about the miserable weather at home. Leaving from Southampton, you'll spend a few days at sea before calling in on Madeira, Portugal.

The next few days after that will be spent in the sunny Canaries Islands of La Palma, Gran Canaria and Tenerife. You can afford plenty of Christmas cheer, as the weather will be wonderfully mild compared to what we are used to at this time of the year.

As you turn back you'll make a stop in Lisbon, Portugal before concluding your journey back at Southampton.

The Grand Caribbean Cruise

Then of course, you could opt to completely banish the winter blues for an extended period with a much larger, more luxurious holiday.

The Grand Caribbean Cruise will take you from the port of Southampton all the way to New York City, many people's dream Christmas location. After spending a few days in the Big Apple, you will be taken to a selection of Caribbean islands.

You'll visit Dominica, Barbados, St. Thomas, St. Lucia, Barbados and St. Kitts. After your island excursions are done, you'll return to New York for a few days before getting back to Southampton.

The Western Mediterranean Cruise

If you don't want to go so far but want to experience visiting multiple locations then this is the cruise for you. After its first call at Lisbon, the second port on the itinerary will be Seville, one of the oldest inhabited towns in the western world which is drenched in culture and history.

Valencia, Carthage, Naples, Rome and Florence will follow on this epic journey. As if that's not enough, you will also go on to visit Cannes, Barcelona and Gibraltar.

The Westbound Transatlantic Crossing

Alternatively, if you would prefer to spend time just exploring one city then what better place than New York? This is what you will get the opportunity to do on a transatlantic cruise.

After leaving from Southampton, you will arrive in New York City a week later. Here you can explore the many diverse neighbourhoods, the amazing selection of shops, the great museums and galleries and the beautiful parks.

A Short Break to Brussels

For those who just want a brief shot of European culture, you can always take the short cruise break to Brussels from Southampton.

Set sail aboard the Oceana for a two-night trip to Brussels, where you'll stay overnight before returning to Southampton in time for Christmas Day.
