Whitsundays Travel Guide

The Whitsundays is a group of 74 islands, making it the largest group of off-shore islands in Australia. They were named by Captain Cook in 1770 and are a popular place with couples looking for a luxurious romantic break and families wanting an exciting fun-filled holiday. Each of the islands offers a different holiday experience.

Daydream Island features an outdoor, man-made aquarium where visitors can learn about the fish species of the Great Barrier Reef. One of the main airports can be found on Hamilton Island. Here, visitors can take part in water sports or take day-trip cruises.

Hayman is the ideal destination for those wanting to enjoy a fine culinary experience. The island is served by some excellent chefs, and the fine shopping boutiques and perfect white beaches make Hayman a must for those looking for an up-market holiday.

A fascinating underwater observatory that will take you 6 metres below the surface can be found on Hook Island, where holidaymakers on a budget are well-catered for by the good value campsites and dormitory accommodation.

Another unusual holiday experience can be found on Lineman Island, where visitors have the chance to try the flying trapeze.

One of the most luxurious holiday experiences is offered by Paradise Bay Eco Escape, where guests can arrive by helicopter to their own secluded island complete with waterfront bungalows.

Many of the islands have dedicated kids’  clubs and most offer accommodation to families as well as couples, making the Whitsundays a great destination whichever type of holiday you are looking for.
